RSSL extends analytical support to formulation

Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) is stepping up its support to the pharmaceutical industry by offering a range of analytical services that support drug formulation activities.

Drawing on the expertise of RSSL in areas such as method development and validation, physical sciences, stability testing, microscopy and metals analysis, the new service promises competitive rates and flexibility in supporting customers during early stages of drug development through experienced project managers.

"RSSL has been active in this area for many years," noted Linda Forsyth, technical specialist, "but customers that know us for problem solving skills have not always appreciated that we also provide services in method development and validation, bulk drug and reference standard characterisation, forced degradation or excipient compatibility studies, for example. The fact is, we offer a range of services that are fundamental in helping to determine the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of a new drug substance, in order to develop a stable, safe and effective dosage form."

Recent expansion means RSSL is uniquely placed to provide analytical support and pharmaceutical CMC work to customers. In September 2014, the company opened 1829m2 of new space to house its pharmaceutical development laboratories, which followed the completion of a 3,048 m2 extension to its existing laboratories in March 2012. Major investment in the past few years means that RSSL is equipped with high-end technologies used in analysis, such as NMR, GC-MS, LC-MS, AAS, FESEM, as well as extensive storage facilities for stability studies. The support available from RSSL also extends to analysis/assessment of drug delivery devices, such as pre-filled syringes.
