Biocatalysts celebrates 35th anniversary by investing in future manufacturing capacity

In celebration of its 35thyear, speciality enzyme company, Biocatalysts, has made a major investment into its future manufacturing capacity.

The company is investing more than £6 million in total, which has already been partially used for an 11,000 sq. ft extension to the existing building. This extension has just been completed and the next phase comprises its fitting out with equipment such as a 10 mfermenter and downstream processing machinery. The company will be using software to control the facility’s equipment.

Additionally, the new production area offers future expansion capacity too removing the need for the company to move.

Further to the increase in manufacturing capacity, the company has launched a unique enzyme discovery platform, MetXtra, that provides a fast and cost-effective approach to novel enzyme development.

“This represents a very exciting time in the speciality enzyme field,” said Daren Bryce, commercial director at Biocatalysts. “The unique breadth of offering, from discovery right through to large scale production, that Biocatalysts has to offer will allow previously in-accessible novel enzymes at commercial scale to our customers.”
