Crowdfunding campaign for medicinal cannabis raises $20,000

The Medical Cannabis Declaration (MCD) used crowdfunding site Indiegogo to raise funds to help spread the message about medicinal cannabis.

Founded by medical professionals and patients, the  Medical Cannabis Declaration (MCD) works with other international associations, along with professional and patient interest groups to build a global network of medical cannabis advocates.

The charity publishes freely accessible information on the medical applications of cannabis as well as advocating patient's rights of access to this natural remedy.

MCD has attracted 130 donors and a combined donation of $20,000.

The funds have already made it possible to create two videos on the use of cannabis as medicine, plus a free online course with six lectures in several languages.

In addition, nine press releases have been issued on topics such as “How does cannabis work as a medicine?”, “Cannabis targets cancer without harming healthy cells”, “Cannabis’ role in treating psychiatric diseases” and “Medical cannabis as orphan drug”.

The crowdfunding campaign has now closed, but the MCD says donations are welcome directly via its website and will be used to expand the information on cannabis as medicine as well as the charity's contact network of medical professionals and patients and to fund further awareness activities.

10 out of 200 countries in the world grant their citizens access to cannabis for medical use.

Another 20 countries established regulations that make cannabis as medicine accessible only in a few special cases, while in more than 150 countries legal access to this treatment remains unavailable.
