Essentra launches national apprenticeship programme

by

Essentra has announced its first National Apprenticeship Programme, that is set to launch across eight UK sites, providing 20 young apprentices with the opportunity to learn key skills in setting, printing and finishing industries.

The initial 10 apprentices will start in May with a second intake beginning in October this year. Comprised of a selection of vocationally recognised qualifications (VRQs), as well as technical, functional and soft skill modules, the programme will take 36 months in total to complete, providing participants with a level three apprenticeship. Essentra’s Bradford, Bristol, Kidlington, Kilmarnock, Newmarket, Newport, Nottingham and Portsmouth sites will be included in the programme.

The company has partnered with industry recognised training delivery providers to give apprentices one-to-one theory-based training from an assigned on-site facilitator, which will allow them to gain core skills and be supported in their transition from education to work. Successful candidates will receive a competitive basic salary and, subject to performance, a pay increase on a regular basis throughout their apprenticeship. Once they have completed the three-year programme successfully, apprentices will also be guaranteed a permanent job at Essentra.

“Currently the average age of employees across our manufacturing sites within the UK is increasing, and we need to ensure that we continue to attract new talent — particularly into our skilled operational roles,” added Richard Elford, head of HR. “At Essentra we understand the importance of discovering and inspiring new talent, and believe that this programme will encourage the next generation of printers, operators and setters to become a part of the UK’s vibrant manufacturing industry.”
