EU approves Pfizer's buyout of Hospira

The EU has approved Pfizer's $15 billion takeover of US rival Hospira after the pharma giant promised to sell certain drugs in light of competition concerns.

The EU commission stated: "The approval is conditional on Pfizer divesting certain sterile injectable drugs, as well as its infliximab biosimilar drug, which is currently under development."

The deal will enhance Pfizer's portfolio of generic injectables and biotech medicines.
