Gerresheimer invests in development centre to include glass products

Gerresheimer Medical Systems has revealed it is expanding its Technical Competence Center (TCC) in Wackersdorf, previously responsible for the development and industrialisation of plastic products, to include glass products.

This investment of tens of millions will create 3,000 sq.m. of additional space for the development and industrialisation of products made of glass, such as syringes and cartridges. It is anticipated that construction of this expansion project should be completed by the end of the year (2018).

One particular focus of the expansion includes the establishment of small-batch production of pre-fillable syringes and cartridges, especially for biotechnologically manufactured medication, clinical samples for approval, or prototypes for process and technology development. Simultaneously, the company reported that glass competence is also being established in the Automation Systems area (special machine engineering) in order to develop innovative technologies for glass forming and automation.

“In addition to the expansion of the technology portfolio, the expansion of small batch production and automation systems in Wackersdorf, we should also focus on large batch production at our location in Bünde, which previously had to be interrupted at considerable expense and effort for development projects and start-ups for new products,” commented Manfred Baumann — global executive vice president sales & marketing, administration & TCC, management.
