I Holland showcase new tool coating

by

I Holland, a leading manufacturer of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical tablet tooling, will showcase a new tablet tool coating at Interphex Japan from 28–30 June.

PharmaCote ECxtra has been engineered to protect tablet punches from a range of common manufacturing problems, including wear and corrosion and formulation sticking issues.

“This is the first time we will be presenting PharmaCote ECxtra to the Japanese market,” explained Alex Bunting, marketing manager, I Holland. “It is not only beneficial in production with many major issues like sticking being addressed, but unlike traditional hard chromium, the most commonly used tooling form, it is applied by an advanced spluttering method, rather than electro-plating. This means we can eliminate problems encountered during the hard chromium coating process like hydrogen penetration and micro-cracking both of which significantly reduce tooling life.”

Further, Bunting revealed that as a result of the application technique, the new tool coating avoids common environmental problems associated with the plating process of hard chromium, which produces a waste product that has implications on worker safety and the environment.

I Holland will be presenting a number of other products during the show, including IH-TMS, a tool management system, which is a 21-CFR part 11 compliant system with the capability to archive tool images and drawings as well as keep a complete audit trail and record of tablet quantities by number of tablets, work order or batch information.
