Intelligent printers released to assist in track and trace

by

A global provider of Auto-ID solutions, SATO, has developed a series of intelligent printers that assist in track and trace applications.

With the European Union Falsified Medicines Directive (EU FMD) coming into force in 2019, to reduce the impact of counterfeit drugs through the serialisation of legitimate ones, all pharma companies will be required to comply. Under the regulation, all new packs of prescription drugs placed on the market from February 2019 onwards will be required to bear two safety features — a unique identifier and an anti-tamper device.

To assist with this regulatory compliance requirement SATO’s printers, the NX Series, are equipped with the company’s Application-Enabled Printer (AEP) technology, enabling the collation, checking and application of relevant data without support from a computer. Moreover, AEP allows users to develop and run tailor-made applications to meet specific printing requirements.

Users of the NX Series of printers can print labels by querying printer-stored or external databases automatically. The memory available within the printers itself allows for storage of formats, large graphics, custom fonts and other downloads.

Furthermore, the printers include the ability to switch between 47 print languages to support traceability operations around the world.
