Making it count: Key innovations on show at this year’s Interphex meeting, day 2

After the successful first day we take a brief glance at what can be enjoyed today, day two of the pharma and biotech manufacturing event, Interphex…

Complete range of bioprocessing products

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group will be presenting its complete range of bioprocessing products during this year’s Interphex meeting.

Novel products on display during the show will include the Quantum peristaltic pump for single-use downstream bioprocessing, Flexicon PF7 aseptic liquid filler, tamper evident BioPure Q-Clamp for single-use Tri-Clamp applications, and an expanded range of high purity gaskets, valves and hoses.

The Quantum peristaltic pump features patented ReNu SU technology cartridge, delivering high accuracy with flow linearity that is independent of back pressure, thereby removing the need for flow meters and load cells. It was judged at Interphex 2017 as ‘cutting-edge’ in the exhibitor awards, where it won the Best Technological Innovation category.

Also on display, the Flexicon PF7 aseptic liquid filler is optimised for operation in GMP-regulated industries, such as biotechnology, pharmaceutical and diagnostics. Engineered with Flexicon’s trademark performance, the PF7 adds an intuitive, operator interface to reduce the risk of costly filling errors. The PF7 is optimised for precision dispensing by weight or by volume using Flexicon’s Accusil tubing and single-use asepticsu fluid paths, simplifying cleaning validation and changeover.

Additionally, WMFTG’s expanded range of BioPure fluid path components, now including laser etched gaskets, braided silicone hose, connectors, and the tamper evident Q-Clamp, will be on display, delivering customers a single-source for fully traceable end-to-end fluid path solutions.

The company’s tubing to be displayed is manufactured in an ISO 14644-1 Class 7 cleanroom to ISO 9001:2008 standards, following cGMP guidelines. Other products on display that make up the total fluid path solution include FlowSmart PolyClamp EPDM gaskets which are USP Class VI certified ASEPCO wireless radial diaphragm valves; and Aflex PTFE flexible hoses.

Moreover, an independent white paper, recently published, has concluded that the Quantum technology ‘successfully addresses many of the current limitations seen in single-use pumps’. Findings from this white paper will be presented on the Innovation Stage, booth 1170, today at 3.15–4 pm.

Vital serialisation challenges

At Interphex, provider of serialisation and track and trace solutions, Adents, will deliver two presentation today on topics including best practices for implementing cloud-based serialisation systems and track and trace challenges/solutions for contract manufacturers (CMOs).

From 11.30 am–12.00 pm, the company will present The Five Steps to Select the Right Cloud Serialization Solution at the show’s technical theatre, located at Booth #1677. Later on from 3.15–4.00 pm, at the show’s CMO/CDMP Stage (Booth #1053), Adents will offer Real-world Serialization Implementation for CMOs: A Deep Dive.

Additionally, on its booth, Adents will showcase its latest innovations, including its brand new on-line Cloud Solution Demo Platform. This demo tool allows visitors to experience various functionalities in order to discover ways in which Adents Prodigi may benefit their business.

“By offering this unique way of testing Adents Prodigi, we want to prove to the life science market that they can address the challenges of connecting multiple trading partners, managing dozens of countries regulations and take advantage of their serialisation data with a very user-friendly platform,” explains Christophe Devins, CEO of Adents. “Our 25 years of serialisation experience and close partnership with Microsoft’s development team gave us the keys to develop this best-in-class, versatile solution.”

Portfolio of continuous technologies

Onsite at Interphex this year, Pall Biotech will be presenting its portfolio of continuous technologies — the Cadence portfolio.

Since its launch, the Cadence portfolio has grown with technologies designed to overcome key downstream challenges with easy-to-integrate and continuous-ready technologies. Most recently, the Cadence BioSMB Process multicolumn continuous chromatography system was named a key downstream innovation for 2017 by the Aspen Awards and will be one of the technologies available for viewing at the booth.

The Cadence BioSMB Process system can be operated in semi- or fully continuous mode to deliver higher throughput efficiency and optimized media utilization compared with traditional batch or other chromatographic approaches. Two flow range variants aimed at perfusion (Cadence BioSMB process 80 system) and batch (Cadence BioSMB process 350 system) bioreactor-based processes are available. In both cases, the unique single-use eight column architecture enables highly flexible flow configurations through the single-use valve cassette. Additionally, the platform is easy to transition to from existing batch processes with no changes in media or assays and is fully scalable from process development to commercial manufacture.

Aseptic packaging focus

The Marschesini Group will focus on aseptic packaging and cosmetic packaging market strategies this year, featuring its FDP 05 syringe filler at the booth.

The FSP 05 has been developed to meet the increasing production requirements of products classified as pre-filled syringes. This filling and stoppering machine for nested syringes is compact and flexible, able to produce up to 12,000 pieces/h. The machine offers high fill accuracy with various dosing options, and precise and gentle centring and handling of syringes which minimises the risk of breakage.

Additionally, on the stand of Marchesini’s co-exhibitor, SEA Vision, will be model BL A309 carton serialisation unit, manufactured at Neri facility.

“Interphex is an extremely valuable platform connecting leading technologies and companies in the industry” says Roger Toll, executive vice president of Marchesini Group USA. “This year, visitors will find an effective blend of innovation and technology creating efficient and advanced solutions in the pharmaceutical industry.”
