Moisture Budget Technical Service Debuts at Medica

On 20–23 November, medical packaging specialist Baltimore Innovations will be exhibiting at the medical trade fair Medica, showcasing its latest development in moisture control packaging — a specialist Moisture Budget Technical Service, developed specifically for medical device and pharmaceutical customers concerned about moisture ingress into their packing and needing to be able to give high-quality assurances to customers about the onward shelflife of their devices or formulations.

“The major advantage of our system is that customers get an in-depth mathematical analysis of their moisture loading and desiccant requirements, tailored for all atmospheric conditions such as tropical or temperate conditions, which ensures the correct materials are used to safeguard their products stability,” said Simon Poulter, Business Development Manager of Baltimore Innovations.

This analysis is a free-of-charge confidential service, based on a specialist computer model developed exclusively by Baltimore’s R&D Director Dr. Mark Valentine, who joined the company from the Chemical Engineering Research Group at the University of Oxford.

“By a full understanding of their products’ thermo-fluidic environment, clients can achieve their optimal quantity and placement of desiccant that will maintain the ideal humidity and ensure stated shelf and storage requirements,” said Dr. Valentine. "This will result in lower costs (by removing excess desiccant) and higher performance, by improved desiccant selection and placement. In addition to these benefits, the selection of film laminate with appropriate moisture vapour transmission rates will achieve excellent performance.”
