Nemera participates in project Cupido

by

Nemera is contributing to the EU-funded project Cardio Ultraefficient nanoParticles for Inhalation of Drug prOducts (Cupido), which is aimed at applying nanotechnologies to the cardiovascular field.

Started in February this year, Cupido is focused on developing inhalable nanoparticles that can deliver a therapeutic to the heart. As nanoparticles are extremely small, it is hoped that this size advantage can be exploited to innovate the cardiovascular field and offer a novel non-invasive route for administration of therapeutics.

To meet the goal, Cupido is trying to develop biocompatible and biodegradable nanoparticles that can self-assemble and encapsulate drugs (novel or available) in a suitable format for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Once inhaled, the nanoparticles should translocate through the lungs and then release the drug in the heart. Specificity for the drug release site will be ensured through chemical and magnetic guidance. Nemera will develop the inhalation devices for the nanoparticles.

Nemera designs, develops and manufactures drug delivery devices for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and generics industries.
