New inhaler launched to improve adherence

A new inhaler has been launched to potentially offer patients enhanced levels of convenience, comfort and safety.

The Breath-Actuated DPI (Dry Powder Inhaler) by healthcare manufacturer RPC Formatec has been designed to deliver the exact dose of medication to the patient’s lungs. It ensures this by dispensing the powder only when the patient breathes deeply enough, potentially solving adherence and misuse issues. This method also prevents any of the medication being left in the chamber or only reaching the mouth instead of the lungs.

In addition, the cap can be unscrewed and replaced without the dose being activated to avoid the danger of double-dosing.

Since the inhaler is calibrated to a specified dose, it can be adapted to the requirements of a wide range of different formulations. Ease of use for patients is also provided through a comfortable mouth piece, and the device’s dose indicator helps them keep track of their medication intake.
