Pharmaceutical statistics award open for entries

Nominations are now open for this year’s Statistical Excellence in the Pharmaceutical Industry Award, jointly organised by the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) and Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry (PSI).

The Award, which has previously been scooped by AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Novartis, recognises influential examples of the application of statistical practice in the pharmaceutical industry. It is open to anybody working in the pharmaceutical industry in the UK or overseas who has demonstrated a good use of statistics in their work during the 2014 calendar year. The nominee does not need to be a member of PSI or the RSS.

The winner will be presented at the Gala Dinner of the Annual PSI Conference in London on 12 May 2015.

The award nominations are likely to have demonstrated one or more of the following criteria:

· A clear understanding of the needs of researchers and investigators;

· an application of an existing statistical practice to a new area which has increased the quality and efficiency of investigations;

· a new development in the design of investigations and/or the analysis of data that has led to further insights into the safety, efficacy and value of medicines or devices;

· an excellent way to communicate results that is clear and helpful to a wide array of users, showing how statisticians understand the range of user needs.
