RSSL expands biomolecular analysis facility

by

Reading Scientific Services Limited (RSSL) has relocated its biomolecular analysis group to expanded laboratories in its JTT facility on the Reading University site.

This expansion will further the investment in technology focused on protein characterisation and host cell protein and DNA analysis. Additionally, there will be an increase in the number of scientists working in the group.

The larger facility will now house two purpose built PCR analysis suites and MagMax technology for automated DNA preparation, which strengthens the company’s host-cell DNA analysis. These host cell analyses are complimentary to established protein characterisation services, such as mass spectroscopy, electrophoresis and antibody techniques.

Moreover, the biomolecular analysis can call on other core strengths of the business, including peptide mapping, di-sulphide bridge location, identifying glycosylation sites and determination of post-translational modifications.

“We have already seen a strong uptake in work for protein characterisation,” said Dr Philip Kuhlman, manager of RSSL’s biomolecular analysis group. “Not all of our customers are fully aware of the broad service we offer, but our move to these new GMP compliant laboratories and the increase in scope of RSSL’s GMP licence to include biologicals by the MHRA has given us the opportunity to expand the range and quality of the service that we can offer.”
