SPX launches mixers for pharma and biotech applications

The SSi (stainless steel in-line) and SSO (stainless steel offset) mixers from SPX’s SanStar meet the required standards of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and are provided with a quality assurance documentation (QAD) package to demonstrate current good manufacturing practice (cGMP). 

Constructed with stainless steel housings and motors, Lightnin SanStar mixers comply with the latest ASME BPE (American Society of Mechanical Engineers Bioprocess Equipment group) guidelines, have CE certification and can be designed for ATEX requirements. They are suitable for a wide range of mixing applications in areas including buffer and media preparation, fermenters, bioreactors, product recovery and bulk pharmaceutical processing.

These flexible units are adaptable to installation requirements and are capable of having longer shaft lengths to fit mix-tanks without the need for any in-tank support. Various motor options plus a full spectrum of impeller types are also available to meet a wide variety of tank sizes. Additionally, the mixers will run at variable speeds without speed block out ranges and can be fitted to multiple flange types and sizes.

The SanStar SSi is based on SPX’s vast experience of building in-line gearboxes and sanitary design. It offers a smaller footprint than many alternate technologies, making it a good choice where space is limited.

The offset gearbox on the SanStar SSO provides a mixer that combines sanitary design and easy maintenance with the ability to use exceptionally long shaft lengths of up to 4572mm, making it ideal for larger tanks. 

SanStar mixers have polished 300 series stainless steel housings and are designed to be easily cleaned, provide superior corrosion protection and are suitable for use in clean-in-place (CIP) and sterilise-in-place (SIP) operations. Their single, dry-running mechanical seals are available with or without a sanitary purge gland.
