The 6th Pharmaceutical Sciences World Congress will be held on 21-24 May in Stockholm, Sweden.

The event will use the theme “future medicines for one world” and will be based on systems approach to drug discovery and development and disease treatment.
Systems approach is new direction in pharmaceutical science research and pharmacy practice. It details that diseases should no longer be viewed as simple mechanisms or pathways.
Systems approach can potentially support the discovery of new drug and there is a possibility for the development of highly personalized and individualised therapeutic interventions.
The event will feature over 120 experts who will share their knowledge on how the new approach will affect drug design, delivery, formulation and manufacturing. The congress will also discuss drug regulation and the tools used to access medicines for safety, quality or efficacy.
There will also be a focus on clinical practice and pharmacy practice research.
Speakers at PSWC2017 include:
· Dan Hartman, director of Integrated Development at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
· Systems biology pioneer Hiroaki Kitano, president of the Systems Biology Institute Japan and head pf Sony Computer Science Laboratories.
· Pierre Meulien, executive director of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), which is a €5 billion public-private partnership between the European Union and the European pharmaceutical industry.
On systems biology professor Kitano said: “Systems biology is important because these biological systems are not random assemblies. There are fundamental principles, and systems biology is a way to uncover those principles and reveal the phenomena we are actually looking at. But that’s not enough. Systems biology will be judged through its practical applications, such as cancer therapies or ecological sustainability. . . So the role of systems biology in biomedical science and biotechnology is to capture the complex reality, and provide the technology to intervene in a way which is desirable.”
