SP Scientific has launched the AdVantage Pro, a laboratory freeze dryer that combines development- and pilot-scale capabilities in a convenient benchtop unit.
Building on the reputable performance of its predecessors, the AdVantage Plus and Advantage 2.0 freeze dryers, the AdVantage Pro features a new Intellitronics controller, which is said to deliver enhanced functionality and intuitive touchscreen navigation.
Designed for both the occasional user and freeze drying expert, the AdVantage Pro aims to be asy to operate and simplify freeze drying. One touch startup and shutdown should ensure that the product and freeze dryer are protected from inadvertent operational procedures.
An intuitive full colour touchscreen display provides users with at-a-glance understanding of the status of the freeze dryer and whether or not appropriate freeze drying conditions exist. Alarm alerts, delivered via email, help notify the user of potential problems with the system and hence the product. Utilising optional Ethernet control, the freeze dryer can be connected to a network and be monitored and controlled from any other location on that network.
Recipe customisation (up to 10 thermal treatments and 12 drying steps) and optional remote access should enable operators to undertake complex freeze drying protocols even when they are away from the laboratory. The controller provides scientists with the ability to develop a complete freeze drying recipe, together with the flexibility to programme and control individual pressure and temperature settings at each step of the process.
The AdVantage Pro is a versatile system that can freeze dry bulk product or be configured for applications in stoppered vials. Top down pneumatic stoppering is available as an option. The Advantage Pro also features a Pirani gauge to measure and control vacuum. Side-mounted manifold valves provide the additional flexibility to freeze dry product in flasks.
Two refrigeration choices (-70 and -85°C) are available for the large 6 l capacity condenser, depending on the type of product and solvents being lyophilised. Incorporating up to three fluid-cooled silicone flooded shelves, the AdVantage Pro maintains a precise level of temperature control (+/- 0.5°C). Added operational convenience is provided by a condenser coil that can hold a total of 6 l before defrosting.
At only 66 cm wide, the Advantage Pro requires a small amount bench space, yet enables product to be safely processed on over 2,766 cm2 of usable shelf area.
The AdVantage Pro comes with a two-year refrigeration warranty and includes CE marking.
