Pharma Action
This year's CPhI Worldwide has proved a great success for Pharma Action, which presented its strategy to become one of Europe's leading producers of heparin — completely produced under GMP-standards and already fully compliant with the latest FDA and EMA requirements.
Together with its partner the Tönnies Group, the largest producer of pork in Europe, Pharma Action is able to offer Heparin that is 100% made in Germany. From the pig to the final API, all steps in the heparin manufacture take place within the same company — a completely traceable heparin supply chain from German and European animal sources.
"With our closed, highly controlled supply chain, Pharma Action offers pharmaceutical manufacturers and patients worldwide a unique selling proposition: 100% traceability and therefore safety of heparin active substances," said Erol T. Isim, founder and Managing Director of Pharma Action, at the press conference given at the CPhI event.
The Tönnies Group and Pharma Action embark on this joint venture by producing the crude material for the anticoagulant heparin in a specially designed GMP production plant. The factory, scheduled to be fully operational by the end of the second quarter of 2014, will produce crude heparin in the industrial area of Aurea near Rheda-Wiedenbrueck, Germany. At full capacity this factory will process in excess of 30% of Europe's traceable mucosa, the raw material for Heparin production.
At the worlds leading API Expo CPhI, attendance rates exceeded expectation and many new contacts were made. Frank Duffe, Managing Director of Tönnies, was very pleased with the quality of the expert discussions: "For us it has definitely been a very successful trade show, characterised by high-quality contacts and conversations. We even generated concrete projects right at the fair."
