Dustcheck
Dustcheck has designed and developed a silo venting process that incorporates animproved pressure shock resistance rating of 1 bar as standard. The company’s SFJC-VU silo venting filter now represents significant cost savings for industry as its improved pressure rating, conical filtration technology and the ability to use smaller explosion relief panels translate into measurably lower running costs.
Until recently, the company produced filter units rated for 0.35 bar Pred value and was only able to offer improved explosion capacity at additional cost. The breakthrough came following a series of live dust explosion tests, carried out in conjunction with the HSE, to measure the pressure shock rating of small vessel volume filter units. As a result, the company is now able to offer its silo venting SFJV-VU units with a Pred value of 1.0 bar as standard.
Dustcheck Technical Director Nigel Hubbard said: “Over recent years it has become more apparent that the shape of a silo can influence the pressures generated during an explosion from within the silo itself. Any silo with a length greater than its diameter will see an increase in pressure as this length to diameter ratio grows.
“This fact places a greater burden on the strength, not only of the silo itself but for any connected piece of equipment. There is good guidance to determine equipment strengths up to 0.5 bar but pressures greater than this require some verification.
“To this end, Dustcheck initiated live dust explosion test work to determine actual pressure shock resistance strength values for filter units. This work has not only allowed higher strength ratings to be given to the majority of the Dustcheck range of filters, it has also allowed the SFJC-VU filter range to be rated for 1 bar.”
Silo Venting Filters are specifically designed to vent silos fed with powdered products, primarily fed by road tankers as its compact design and conical filtration technology allows more effective cleaning of the jet pulse and therefore reduces running costs. They are self-maintaining and return product back directly into the silo via an automatic reverse-pulse compressed air cleaning system, thereby reducing waste and product costs.
Dustcheck’s dust collector range is designed for safe and simple maintenance. They are available in rectangular or circular construction and offer ‘cleanside’ or ‘dirtyside’ removal. They can be mounted both horizontally and vertically with a full range of option including ATEX compliance.
Operating from purpose-built premises in Stoke-on-Trent, Dustcheck offers dust control solutions to industry and have an agency agreement with the MAHLE Group, which offers a range of cartridge filters for the dust control industry.
